Buchanan County man shot in head, assaulted following argument over dead cat

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A 65-year-old Buchanan County man was shot and assaulted following an argument that ensued between him and two other men who ran over his cat, according to local law enforcement.

Around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office deputies received a call to respond to Atchison Hospital regarding a 65-year-old male victim who was shot and assaulted at 11901 Northshore Drive.

According to a news release sent out by the Sheriff's Office, the man told deputies that a car with two unknown men ran over his cat.

An argument then occurred between the victim and the males in the car over hitting the cat.

The males then exited the car and one of them shot the victim in the head. Both of the males then beat the victim with a bicycle frame.

The victim was later transported by air ambulance to KU Medical Center for treatment.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office said investigators have executed several search warrants and continue to work with law enforcement partners following leads.
