Fast action by Chillicothe Correctional Center residents saves a life

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. (KQTV) -- Residents at the Chillicothe Correctional Center are being celebrated for saving the life of another fellow resident earlier this month.

In a Facebook post, the correctional center said resident Olivia Smith was found choking just after 7 a.m. Saturday, July 4.

One resident went to the housing unit control module to get assistance.

In addition, residents Demeka Galbreath, Monica Berten and Jamie Bradley performed lifesaving measures, which ultimately dislodged an object blocking Smith's airway, while custody staff was responding to the medical emergency.

Medical then responded and evaluated Smith.

Galbreath, Berten and Bradley were presented with certificates for their efforts.
