Over 92K total Evergy customers without power during storms, crews work to restore service

MISSOURI (KQTV) -- Evergy said its crews are continuing to work to restore power to customers after over 92,000 residences total were reported without power.

The impact of the outages spanned from Manhattan, Kansas, to Wichita, Kansas, and to the Kansas City Metro area.

Storms came with high winds, heavy rain and lightning. Tornado warnings were issued in several Kansas and Missouri counties.

At the storm's peak, Evergy's system saw about 66,000 outages.

Evergy said its crews began to work to restore power as soon as conditions were safe, and worked overnight to do so.

Evergy also said crews saw significant damage in Manhattan, Topeka, Kansas, St. Joseph and the KC Metro area.

Power was restored in Manhattan and St. Joseph overnight.

As of noon Tuesday, over 5,000 customers were reported to be without power.
