Police activity causes lockdown at Carden Park

EDITOR'S NOTE: This article has been edited to reflect that a lockdown at Carden Park Elementary was lifted.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A lockdown has been lifted at Carden Park Elementary, which experienced a soft lockdown due to police activity in the area, according to the St. Joseph School District.

SJSD said it was directed to lock down by the St. Joseph Police Department due to the police activity.

The district sent out a message to parents and families that the school was locked down just after 1:30 p.m. The lockdown was lifted just after 2 p.m.

SJPD said it responded to a disturbance in a nearby neighborhood, where it believed a subject may have been armed.

The department contacted Carden Park as a precautionary measure in response to the report; there were no threats made directly to the school.
