BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- Buchanan County voters passed Proposition K by over 54% Tuesday.

Proposition K aims to create dedicated funding through a quarter-cent sales tax toward children's services across the county.

The funding would provide programs and services for children ages 19 and younger.

Over 45% of registered voters in Buchanan County exercised their right to vote Tuesday, with 13,258 voters approving the measure.

10,898 voters said "no" on Prop K.

Now that the measure has passed, Buchanan County commissioners will appoint a nine-member board to hire an executive director and develop bylaws and guidelines for local agencies to apply for funding.

Organizations such as the YWCA, Voices of Courage and the Noyes Home for Children would apply for funding from the tax to support their services.
