MSHP Captain announces retirement from Troop H

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol will send one of its Troop H Captains off to retirement after his 31 years of service to the agency.

Captain Shawn P. Skoglund, who is a commanding officer of Troop H, will retire on June 1.

Skoglund joined the Patrol as a member of the 69th Recruit Class on Jan. 1, 1995. After graduating from the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 10 in Randolph County.

He was then transferred to Troop H and was assigned to Zone 2 in Nodaway County on June 1, 1998. Skoglund was promoted to "Corporal" on Jan. 1, 2000, and transferred to Troop H, Zone 1 in Holt/Atchison counties.

Skoglund was promoted to "Sergeant" and designated zone supervisor for Zone 9 in Livingston County on Oct. 20, 2002. On Jan. 1, 2014, he was promoted to "Lieutenant" and became a member of Troop H Command Staff. He became "Captain" and was designated commanding officer of Troop H on Dec. 1, 2022.

Skoglund is no stranger to the Northwest Missouri region. He graduated from Nodaway-Holt R-VII High School in Graham, Missouri.

He also completed IACP Leadership in Police Organizations course in 2013 and attended the Advanced Public Order Commanders Course in St. George, Utah, in March 2021.

Skoglund and his wife Shannon (Galbreath) have two daughters, Erynn and Emily.
