REPORTS: New York Jets finalizing deal to send QB Justin Fields to Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KQTV) -- After the Chiefs' QB1 suffered a season-ending injury on Dec. 14 and backup Gardner Minshew left to Arizona in free agency, Kansas City is now making trades for the New York Jets' QB Justin Fields.

Fields is getting ample reps in during the off-season and training camp, and could potentially play in the season depending on Patrick Mahomes' recovery, according to ESPN.

After trading for Fields, the Chiefs' QB room would rank as follows:

  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Justin Fields
  • Chris Oladokun
  • Jake Haener

In exchange for Fields, the Chiefs are expected to trade a 2027 6th-round pick to the Jets.

The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract last March, but he struggled as the team's starting quarterback and was eventually benched for Tyrod Taylor.
