Xavier Worthy ready for bigger leadership role this fall, Drue Tranquill talks intensity in Day 3 of Chiefs Training Camp

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs held its third official Training Camp practice on Friday on MoWest's campus. It was a partly cloudy day with cooler temperatures but the intensity was higher on the field.

One guy that loves to bring the energy at training camp is veteran linebacker Drew Tranquill. Tranquill, who's entering year 8 in the NFL and year 4 with the Chiefs, understands that the team's groundwork for the fall is built over these next few weeks, but says friendly trash talk also helps these players get through these long days.

"I think it just makes camp more fun. There's no hiding that these are the hardest days of the season, they should be. You're building the foundation, this is where all your mental confidence and everything that you can fall back on when things get hard in the season is built," said Tranquill. "So when you can lighten the mood, laugh a little bit and jaw back and forth a little bit, it makes it easier. It makes it more fun and brings the energy to otherwise long, hard days."

One of the many new faces in this Chiefs secondary this season is fourth-year cornerback Kader Kohou. Kohou missed all of last season with a torn ACL on the Miami Dolphins, he says this last year was tough at times recovery wise, but he was able to reflect more on himself and appreciate the sport he's passionate about so much.

"I think the most challenging part was the earlier parts when I couldn't walk and do the normal stuff I'm used to doing," said Kohou. "But I feel like that year sitting down I kind of learned a lot about myself. It kind of made me grow my love more for football and cherish it a little more because it can get taken away anytime."

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy enters year 3 with the Chiefs. The speedy wideout says his shoulder feels good to go. After surgery from injuring it so early in the season last year, he now looks to keep advancing in his role in this Kansas City offense, as well as look to be more of a leader this season.

"I don't want to be a guy that's obviously all loud. I'm going to kind of lead by example. If guys need help, obviously wisdom in certain certain routes, I've been here," said Worthy. "I know a little bit now. Obviously I'm in my 3rd year, but to get guys obviously lined up telling them all you can run this on this play, just being that leader. Letting the guys know that they can run certain routes a certain way."

The Chiefs will have another Training Camp practice on Saturday morning on August, 1st before taking Sunday as an off-day. The pads come on for the first time all camp on Monday, August 3rd.
