Training Camp day 4: Chris Jones likes new additions Chiefs have added on defense, Nohl Williams ready to take next step at corner

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs narrowly avoided disaster in Training Camp Saturday morning.

Wide receiver and fifth round rookie draft pick Cyrus Allen, who has been impressing immensely throughout this whole camp, went down with an injury in a special teams drill and had to be carted off the field. The Chiefs later said Allen has a shin bruise, but nothing was torn or broken, and he's listed as day to day. The best case scenario as the team dodges a bullet.

""(Kaiir) Elam was catching the ball, they were both playing gunner. Elam was catching it and he was clearly there and Allen came and he thought he was catching it and they collided," said Chiefs' Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub. "(Cyrus Allen) is really doing well on offense and he's doing well for me too, he's a gunner and he's a returner. He's put himself in a good position to be a guy that's going to help us this year….I hate to see somebody get hurt, especially on a special teams drill."

Defensive tackle and fan favorite Chris Jones is going into his eleventh season with the Chiefs, and he loves all the new moves Kansas City has made in the past NFL draft to build up the big boys in the trenches.

"I'm excited about the young talent we have on the D line, man. A lot of explosiveness," said Jones. "Peter (Woods) is coming along. (Khyiris Tonga) is coming really along. R Mason (Thomas) also is doing his thing, so I'm excited to get it going. We haven't put the pads on yet, so I'm excited to put the pads on Monday and see where we stand."

Chiefs second year cornerback and former third round draft pick Nohl Williams will look to be one of Kansas City's starting corners this season. Williams got a ton of playing time in the last few games. From last year with KC and he said that experience helped him out enormously.

"It just gave me a feel how to finish, start and finish a game playing all like sixty to seventy snaps," said Williams. "It was good for me just to see where I was at, how my body felt. How I look in the first quarter compared to the fourth quarter and just getting that experience."

The Chiefs will have an off day on Sunday, August 2nd and then on Monday the 3rd, the pads come on for the first time all camp.
