Tracking a foggy Thursday morning and Friday T-storms

Good morning and happy Thursday. We’re waking up today with a break from the dry, drought conditions that have been impacting the region.

However, we are starting the day with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 7 a.m. Visibility has been reduced to around a quarter mile in many areas this morning, so be sure to take it slow if you’re heading out on the roads early.

Through the day, cloud cover will gradually improve and we may see a little sunshine by later this afternoon or evening. That sunshine will not last long, though, as another system moves in late tonight, bringing rain and thunderstorms into the early morning hours on Friday.

Friday is a KQ2 First Alert Weather Day as we track multiple rounds of thunderstorms, including the potential for strong to severe storms.

The first round will arrive late tonight into early Friday morning, bringing heavy pockets of rain and the potential for some large hail. Conditions may briefly dry out around lunchtime before the next round develops.

The second round of thunderstorms is expected to move through late Friday afternoon and continue into the evening and overnight hours. As storms develop along a cold front, they could bring damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes and heavy rain.

Because of these threats, our area is currently under an Enhanced Risk, a Level 3 out of 5, for severe weather Friday afternoon and evening.

Once the storms move out, temperatures will drop into the low 50s by Saturday. Sunshine returns for the weekend, with highs climbing back into the low to mid 70s by Monday and Tuesday. Another round of rain and thunderstorms could arrive Monday night into Tuesday.
