Tracking a warm Tuesday and t-storms tonight

Temperatures are starting well above the seasonal average this morning, with readings in the low 50s across the region.

Skies are mostly clear early today, and those conditions will help temperatures warm quickly through the afternoon. Highs are expected to reach the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.

Later this afternoon and into the evening, a cold front will move through the region, bringing the chance for rain and thunderstorms.

Most of the St. Joseph region is under a Level 2 risk for severe weather. Far northwest Missouri is under a Level 1 risk, while areas farther east toward the I-35 corridor in northeast Missouri are under a Level 3 out of 5 risk.

The main threats with this system include pockets of heavy rain that could lead to localized flooding, strong wind gusts, and the potential for small hail.

Some of the rain and storms could linger into the early morning hours Wednesday before conditions begin to dry out.

Temperatures will feel much different tomorrow, with highs only reaching the low 50s. A warming trend returns through the remainder of the workweek, with temperatures climbing back into the 60s and 70s by Saturday.
