Law enforcement responds to midtown St. Joseph crash involving SJPD vehicle

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Two people were treated with minor injuries in a midtown crash involving a St. Joseph Police vehicle Monday night.

The St. Joseph Police Department said the crash happened around 6:20 p.m. in the area of 22nd and Faraon Streets and included a St. Joseph Police Department vehicle.

The St. Joseph Fire Department was called to assist with removing one person from the police vehicle, which rolled on its side and sustained significant damage.

The officer driving was transported by a SJPD vehicle to the hospital with minor injuries. They were treated and released.

An individual, who was in custody at the time of the incident also sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by EMS and was treated and released.

The person in the other vehicle involved in the crash said they had minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.

According to SJPD, the crash occurred when the officer was driving west on Faraon Street. The driver of the other vehicle was on 22nd Street. The department is still trying to determine if the vehicle was traveling north or south.

The vehicles then collided in the intersection.

SJPD said the crash remains under investigation and additional details will be released as they become available.

SJPD also emphasized that accidents can happen to anyone, "even experienced drivers such as police officers who spend thousands of miles each year behind the wheel."
