MoWest sees enrollment growth and more student retention during spring semester
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Missouri Western State University said it is seeing continued growth, according to its latest spring enrollment report.
This marks the second year in a row that spring enrollment numbers have increased, along with a noticeable boost in student retention.
The university’s total student headcount grew by 1.52%, bringing enrollment to 3,132 students, which reflects steady progress across different student groups and regions, according to a news release.
One of the biggest highlights from the spring data is the improved student persistence. Overall, the number of students who returned from fall to spring increased by 5% compared to last year.
Retention among degree-seeking students rose by 3% overall, with especially strong gains among adult learners. Retention for non-traditional students increased by 7%, while traditional student retention went up by 3%.
Freshman enrollment also saw a significant jump. The number of degree-seeking freshmen increased by 126 students compared to last spring.
The growth was especially noticeable locally. According to the news release, the number of degree-seeking freshmen from Buchanan County increased by 51 students.
MoWest also reported continued growth in its new student pipeline. Transfer student enrollment rose by 2.9%, and enrollment for new first-time, first-year students increased by 2.33%.
Overall, the university said the latest numbers show positive momentum heading into the next academic year.
