139th Airlift Wing officials pin down cause of hydraulic issue from Tuesday emergency landing

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Officials with the 139th Airlift Wing, located at the Rosecrans Memorial Airport, said they have determined the cause of a hydraulic issue that prompted an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon.

Upon landing the C-130 aircraft, 139th Maintenance evaluated that it was a snubber valve that malfunctioned in the left main landing gear, causing a moderate hydraulic leak.

While flying back from the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center's (AATTC) facility in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, on Tuesday, the aircrew experienced a hydraulic issue, which affected the flaps and landing gear of a C-130 aircraft.

According to Master Sergeant Patrick Evenson, crew members on board the craft were experienced, remained calm and worked well under pressure as a team.

The crew was able to safely restore aircraft utility systems to normal, allowing the C-130 to land safely around 3 p.m.

Emergency responders were on scene as a precaution.

A total of eight crew members were on board, and no injuries were reported during the emergency landing.

The 139th said the aircraft will be back in use soon.
