Missouri man faces fleeing charges after pursuit, barricading himself in St. Joseph residence

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Buchanan County court documents share more details from a pursuit and barricade near North 10th and Madison streets Monday afternoon.

Wayne R. Bruns, 39, was arrested Monday. He was wanted for two full U.S. Extradition felony warrants.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol located Bruns in the bed of a U-Haul truck on South Fourth Street.

According to a probable cause statement, once Bruns noticed the troopers, he exited the bed of the pickup and entered the vehicle, which was also occupied by a female and a small child.

Bruns then backed the truck into the MSHP patrol vehicle, causing "disabling damage" and approximately "$5,000 in damages," according to court documents.

Bruns' path eventually led him from St. Joseph Avenue to the Belt Highway, to Cook Road, where he was traveling over 90 miles per hour with a posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour.

The vehicle was later located abandoned at the intersection of North 8th and Green streets, where MSHP and a K9 began tracking Bruns from the location.

The track ended at the back of North 9th Street, where officers later confirmed Bruns was inside a residence and had barricaded himself in the attic.

About two and a half hours later, Bruns was taken into custody by the St. Joseph Police Department's Special Response Team.

He was evaluated by medical personnel and transported to the Buchanan County Jail, where he was later released to the jail staff on a 24-hour hold.

Bruns had a warrant issued in Taney County for a failure to appear in court. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, failure to register as a sex offender, resisting/interfering with arrest, detention or stop, stealing and the unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
