Law enforcement searching for person of interest in Weston

WESTON, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Platte County Sheriff's Office and the Weston Police Department are searching for a person of interest after the West Platte School District announced school was closed due to a law enforcement situation.

KQ2 reporters on scene observed multiple police vehicles in the area.

According to law enforcement, the person of interest had two felony warrants and was allegedly walking around with an automatic firearm around town.

Additionally, law enforcement told residents to avoid the area of Walnut and Cherry streets, as well as Spring and Cherry streets until further notice.

According to a recent post from the City of Weston, the suspect has not been arrested yet. Officials believe he is in an area that does not pose a direct threat to Weston residents. 

Still, law enforcement remains on high alert and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
