Motion for change of venue filed in case of Skidmore man accused of double homicide

NODAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A Skidmore, Missouri, man accused of killing two women in a Nodaway County double homicide requested and was granted a change of venue for trials related to his case.

Keevin J. Maupin has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action stemming from a homicide incident in April.

Authorities said Maupin allegedly killed two women— 32-year-old Liberty Moore and 58-year-old Karen Babcock— inside a house a few miles north of Skidmore.

Maupin has also collected charges while being held in the Nodaway County jail after attempting to escape and assaulting jail staff multiple times in different ways.

In July, Maupin's defense requested a motion for a change of venue that would take Maupin's case to Atchison County, Missouri.

The change of venue was granted by Honorable Judge Corey K. Herron on Sept. 17; however, Maupin will remain held in Nodaway County until the trial. Pre-trial matters will continue to be held in Nodayway County.

A review/plea trial setting case set for 9 a.m. on Oct. 19 in Nodaway County will still commence.
